Fatal bus crash documents destroyed

SERVICING documents for a bus involved in a fatal accident on August 3 have been destroyed by the boss of the company responsible for its maintenance, according to Košice police.

The daily SME reports that police were called to the company in the early hours of August 7 when security staff reported seeing an intruder on the premises. It turned out to be service boss Jozef S. who was attempting to destroy the documents in the company toilets. Even so, the police managed to recover some of the information.

Police have been investigating whether the accident, in which 11 people died when the vehicle rolled down an embankment on a stretch of road closed to long vehicles, may have been caused by mechanical failure.
