Cabinet puts back tuition fees

THE CABINET has left out an earlier proposal for the introduction of university tuition fees from an amendment to the Universities Act, due to be discussed in parliament this autumn, according to state-run news agency TASR.

Originally, annual fees of Sk3,450 (€82) had been proposed, to be introduced from January 2004. Now, the Finance Ministry will propose new fees, which should be discussed in parliament by November, but will not be implemented before the 2004/2005 academic year.
