Airline wants piece of Bratislava airport

AIR carrier Austrian Airlines (AUA) has expressed interest in joining an international tender to select a foreign investor for Bratislava's M. R. Štefánik Airport. The bid would compete with an earlier offer made by Vienna's Schwechat Airport.

Austrian Airlines sees Bratislava as a cheaper alternative to Vienna and expects a significant increase in traffic at the Bratislava airport, which is only 50 kilometres away from Schwechat.

The airline plans to launch direct flights from Bratislava to major EU destinations beginning next summer regardless of the result of the tender.

"Do ľava," (to the left) I yelled, "Nie, do prava" (no, to the right), I gasped. "Dolšie," I screamed. "Nie, nie, horšie..." My Slovak girlfriend collapsed in laughter. Was it something I said?
