Farmers may lose Sk2.15 billion

THE AGRICULTURE Ministry estimates damages in the sector, caused by dropping prices of farm commodities and unfavourable weather conditions, to be Sk2.154 billion (€51.3 million). However, the farmers' estimations have climbed much higher, state news wire TASR reports.

Agriculture Minister Zsolt Simon has presented the representatives of the agriculture and food chambers with proposals for compensating the losses.

The Slovak Agriculture and Food Chamber (SPPK) assumes that the drought and the sharp fall in prices have left farmers facing a Sk6 billion (€142.9 million) loss in revenues for the year.
