I just returned from Eastern Slovakia, drove a rental car for approximately 2500 km and found the "roads" not to be a problem, even the so-called back roads in the smaller villages. I expected the curves and, yes, they followed a drunken cow when they were made [have you ever driven a car in Colorado?]. It gave me the opportunity to "sit" back and enjoy the beautiful scenery. I am tired of the USA's fast pace and too many cars. Do not spoil Slovakia by making it into another USA.
