IN SLOVAKIA, 64 percent of children have tried smoking. The nation is thus among the countries with the highest rate of young smokers, the daily Národná obroda reported.

In a nationwide survey, the National Health Institute found that almost a fourth of children actively smoke, and 12 percent smoke cigars.

Almost 80 percent of children encountered no problems buying cigarettes at stores or newsstands.
