Industrial park to rise in Spišská Nová Ves

THE CONSTRUCTION of an industrial park in Spišská Nová Ves, eastern Slovakia, the first to be covered by PHARE funds, has been launched after three years of preparations, the private SITA news wire reported.

Spišská Nová Ves mayor Anna Fedorova expects that the park, with a focus on wood processing, will help to reduce the 19 percent unemployment in the district. The investment might create 700 new jobs.

The EU will cover 70 percent of the construction costs, amounting to Sk130 million (€3.17 million), while the Slovak government will cofinance the project with Sk28 million (€683,000). The local municipal office will contribute Sk10 million (€244,000).

The municipality has not signed a contract with any potential investors for operation on the park premises. Though several letters of intent had been signed, the entrepreneurs were discouraged by lengthy preparations and chose other sites for their business.
