STARES, an alternative Slovak rock sextet that was formed by members of the White Noise band a year ago, will hold a Christmas Concert on December 19 at the Lúky Culture House. Zook, the singer, accompanied by guitarists Paul Mc Gregor and Apache, bassist Raiso, drummer Mayo, and keyboardist Čunďo, will perform the band's own songs in English, as well as covers of songs by Patti Smith, Coldplay, Suzanne Vega, Pulp, and Massive Attack. The concert starts at 19:00, at Dom kultúry Lúky (Lúky Culture House) on Vígľašská 1, Bratislava. The tickets cost Sk50. For more information call 02/6382-3930.

EXHIBITION: The Museum of the Year 2003 - The two prize-winners; the Museum of Coins and Medals in Kremnica and the Šarišské Museum in Bardejov jointly display their respective exhibits of coins and medals, and sculptures and paintings.

EXHIBITION: The Main Thing - Painter František Lipták displays around 50 of his newest paintings that look at the world from a humorous point of view.

WESTERN SLOVAKIA


A LARGE Bethlehem exhibition, with central nativity scenes, is currently taking place in the northwestern town of Považská Bystrica. Entitled We Wish You, Vol II, the exhibition is the second annual display of nativity scenes collected from the museums of the Trenčín region. Most of the works are carved from wood; some are made out of paper, cornhusks, or baked from dough. One nativity scene is even built out of wire. Visitors can also see works illustrating the mining activities that took place in the country in the 19th century. The exhibition runs Tuesday to Friday from 8:00 to 16:00, and Saturday to Sunday from 9:00 to 16:00 until January 31. Organised by the Vlastivedné múzeum (National Museum) it takes place at Kaštieľ Orlové (Orlové Manor House), in the village of Orlové near Považská Bystrica. The admission is Sk20.
