Schuster to run for re-election

A petition team has started to collect signatures of citizens in support of the current President Rudolf Schuster's repeated candidacy for the head of state post.

Private news agency SITA quoted Schuster's spokesman, Ján Füle, on January 14 as saying that "if the president collects the needed 15,000 signatures, he will run" in the April 3 presidential elections.

The prospective presidents must submit their candidacies to parliament by January 30.
