Mečiar to run for presidency

VLADIMÍR Mečiar, the country's three time ex-PM and leader of the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS), said that he would announce his candidacy for the presidential post on January 26.

Another candidate, Jozef Prokeš from the non-parliamentary Slovak National Party, said that he would give up his candidacy in favour of Mečiar if the HZDS boss decides to run, the daily Národná Obroda wrote.
