NEWS BRIEFS

No US military bases in Slovakia

THE RELOCATION of the US armed forces in eastern Europe will not bring any units to Slovakia, the daily Pravda wrote. The units will operate in Poland, Bulgaria, and Romania.

"We have no plans to build permanent bases in Slovakia," said Barbara Zigli of the US Embassy's press department.

Jozef Banáš of the ruling coalition party the New Citizen's Alliance said it is logical that the Americans are primarily interested in the Balkans.
