SMK will back Mikloško for president

THE HUNGARIAN Coalition Party (SMK) has decided to support František Mikloško, the Christian Democratic Movement's candidate for president.

SMK officials agreed that Mikloško's political career and his opinions and values most corresponded with those supported by the SMK, the Slovak daily Pravda wrote.

Despite the SMK decision, however, political analysts agree that the strongest candidates remain Foreign Minister Eduard Kukan, Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) chairman Vladimír Meèiar, current president Rudolf Schuster, and ex-HZDS member Ivan Gašparoviè.
