VLADÍMIR Mečiar, leader of the opposition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia, and Ivan Gašparovič, candidate of the non-parliamentary Movement for Democracy, advanced to the second round of presidential elections scheduled for April 17, the SITA news wire reported.
According to official results, Mečiar collected 32.73 percent of votes in the first round of presidential elections on April 3. Gasparovič came in second with 22.28 percent.
Foreign Affairs Minister and Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) candidate Eduard Kukan collected 22.09 percent support.
The difference between second and third place was 3,644 votes.
