THE MONTHLY salary of Slovak members of the European Parliament (MEPs) should be twice that of their colleagues in the Slovak parliament. According to the current calculation, that would be Sk86,400 (€2,140), the Slovak Ministry of Labour proposed.
The monthly salary of Slovak MPs is triple the country's average nominal monthly pay for the previous year, currently about Sk14,365 (€356), the news wire TASR wrote.
Thus, Slovak MPs receive a monthly wage of Sk43,200 (€1,070), but this does not include lump-sum compensations or additional payments for membership in parliamentary committees.
MEP salaries are based on those of the parliament members or government ministers of their respective countries. For example, Italian MEPs receive more than €11,700 and those from Austria about €7,500, while Spain's MEPs get only €2,540 a month.
