THE NUMBER of bank robberies has increased in Slovakia. Over the first three months of this year, 10 banks were robbed, twice the number for all of 2003, the daily SME wrote.
Police have arrested only one bank robber so far.
"The developments in this sphere are alarming," Police Vice President Jaroslav Spišiak said. However, he also explained that the low number of last year resulted from good police work.
In the latest robbery, perpetrators stole Sk496,000 (€12,300) in no longer than three minutes from a bank in Trenčín.
Officials deny that the police are to blame for the worsening trend.
