Smer would win most seats in EP

A NEW study presented by Pat Cox, Speaker of the European Parliament (EP), showed that the opposition party Smer would win five of Slovakia's 14 seats in the EP.

The elections to the EP will take place on June 13 in Slovakia.

The Slovak daily SME reported that the ruling Slovak Democratic and Christian Union and the opposition party Movement for a Democratic Slovakia would each win two seats, according to the study, which was prepared by professor Simon Hix from the London School of Economics and Michael Marsh from Trinity College in Dublin.

The parliamentary Hungarian Coalition Party, the Christian Democratic Movement, the New Citizen's Alliance, and the Slovak Communist Party would win one seat each, as would the non-parliamentary Slovak National Party.
