Manufacturing firms' profit dropping

MANUFACURING industry firms reached a gross profit of Sk11.5 billion (€287.7 million) in the first quarter of 2004, an annual decrease by 32.2 percent.

The revenues of this sector's companies, excluding value-added tax and excise taxes, came to Sk203.9 billion (€5.1 billion), marking a 17.1 percent growth year on year. Sales reached Sk195.1 billion (€4.9 billion), with an added value of Sk42 billion (€1.1 billion), a more than 5 percent increase year on year.

In the period, sector employment saw a 2.6 percent decrease year on year.
