More money for clerics

THE WAGES of Slovak priests and other clerics should be increased as of next year, the Slovak daily SME wrote.

The current average cleric's wage is Sk9,000 (€225), which should be increased to Sk12,000 (€300) according to a report that the Slovak cabinet discussed on June 2.

Next year, the state will provide clerics Sk170 million (€4.3 million) more than this year's Sk686 million (€17.2 million).

The state paid 3,042 clerics and 257 other employees of registered churches in Slovakia last year.
