Three parties want top posts

THREE PARLIAMENTARY parties are interested in nominating people to the two vacant deputy speaker posts in the Slovak parliament.

The ruling New Citizen's Alliance (ANO) wants to nominate member Ľubomír Lintner, despite his failure to win sufficient support to be elected to the post twice in the past.

ANO Chairman Pavol Rusko said the party wants to negotiate support for Lintner with the opposition parties, the Pravda daily wrote.

Another ruling party, the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), wants to fill the other deputy speaker of parliament position. The SDKÚ held the seat until the end of last year when Zuzana Martináková left the post and the party along with several other MPs to form a new party, the Free Forum.

Lastly, the opposition party Smer, wants to nominate its leader, Robert Fico, to one of the posts.
