Maestro and MasterCard numbers hit 1.59 million

THE NUMBER of debit payment cards issued in Slovakia by MasterCard Europe reached 1.59 million at the end of March, the news wire SITA wrote. Compared to the first quarter of last year, this number grew 14 percent. The number of Maestro debit payment cards was 1.37 million and the number of MasterCard and MasterCard Electronic payment cards reached 220,000.

"Demand for payment cards is growing in Slovakia, while there is a significant continued rise in customer demand for credit cards," said Jan Čarný, general manager of MasterCard Europe for Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

The total transaction volume over the first quarter provided via MasterCard cards increased 20 percent year-on-year to €560 million. On average, each cardholder performed transactions worth €351 over the first quarter.
