NBS announces coin competition

SLOVAKIA's central bank, NBS, announced a competition for the design of the reverse sides of Slovak euro coins.

NBS Deputy Governor Ivan Šramko said that the bank wanted to be prepared well ahead of the introduction of the European currency, scheduled for 2008 or 2009, the private news agency SITA wrote.

Artists should submit eight designs for the various denominations that represent the country. The NBS set the deadline for the first round of the selection process for January 31, 2005.

The five best proposals will advance to the second round. The winner is to be announced on December 15, 2005.

Designs instigating racial hatred and xenophobia will be excluded from the competition.
