Reader feedback: The majority must protect the minority

Re: Christian Democrats protest priest's sentence for defaming homosexuals, Flash news briefs, July 12 - 18, Vol 10, No 27

Are the Slovak Christian Democrats aware of the fact that the Swedish pastor in question said things like 'homosexuals are a threat to the Swedish society', and implied that homosexuality leads to paedophilia? I find it rather strange that such statements are defended by politicians claiming to be democrats.

Democracy doesn't mean the right of the majority to bash the minorities, whether it's an ethnic, religious, or sexual minority. A democracy that doesn't protect its minorities is just a tyranny of the majority. Interestingly enough, the Christian Democratic Party in Sweden has not objected to the sentence. They obviously don't share the views expressed by their Slovak brother party.
