Abelovský not aiming for vice-chair

INDEPENDENT MP Miro-slav Abelovský does not intend to run for the post of parliamentary vice chairman, the private TV broadcaster Markíza reported August 17.

"I think I would not be elected if I ran for the post," Abelovský said after meeting Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda.

At the meeting, Dzurinda presented Abelovský with a draft agreement between his Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) party and independent MPs aimed to secure the voting majority in the parliament.

Abelovský said that it was not clear what the ruling coalition could offer the MPs to convince them to oppose any laws increasing state budget expenditures.

According to Abelovský, none of the independent MPs are intending to join the SDKÚ parliamentary caucus.
