Post office issues 20 new stamps in 2005

THE SLOVAK Post plans to issue 20 new stamps over the next year dedicated to various occasions, events, and personalities.

Some of the new stamps will be issued in honour of various holidays such a special Valentine's Day stamp, an Easter lamb stamp, and a Christmas stamp that will feature the Three Kings. Banská Bystrica will celebrate the 750th anniversary of gaining town status and privileges. The mountain railroads in Čierny Balog and Vychylovka will have their stamps issued within the Technical Sites collection.

Theme-stamp collectors can expect stamp sets featuring cycling and horses, and art collectors might appreciate stamps with baroque and contemporary art printed with the classical steel-engraving technology.

April will feature the stamp of the European Emission Council issued under the theme of gastronomy, and May will see a stamp honouring Slovak physicians Dionýz Ilkovič and Filip Lenard as part of the World's Year of Physics. The Biennial of the Illustration Bratislava festival will also get its own stamp.
