Unemployment rises

THE NUMBER of employed people in Slovakia fell by 0.8 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2004 to 2.15 million and the employment rate was 56 percent, Hospodárske noviny informed.

Slovakia remains at the EU's tail end in terms of unemployment. While the EU average in July reached 9 percent, Slovakia's unemployment rate reached 18.9 percent in the first half of this year according to the data published by the Statistical Office.
