Reader feedback: Bad parents beget bad children

Re: Child crime statistics alarming, Sep 27-Oct 3, Vol 10, No 37

This article was very alarming. In my opinion, a five-year old shouldn't know anything about robbing people, let alone be involved in a robbery. They should be playing with dolls and enjoying the innocence of their childhood.

Parents need to take a more active role in their children's lives. There needs to be appropriate punishment for children who commit brutal crimes. Parents also need to be held responsible for the lack of attention towards children of such young ages. When a parent does not correct a child's wrongs, he or she gets the idea that they can do wrong and it doesn't matter, because no one is going to mete out punishment. Neglected children will continue to commit crimes and the severity of the crimes will increase as they increase with age.

One nuclear shelter with a capacity for several hundred people now serves as a music club with suitable name Subclub (formerly U-club).
