Social Dems and Smer to merge

NON-PARLIAMENTARY Social Democratic Party of Slovakia (SDSS) will cease to exist as of January 1, 2005. Its estimated 2,000 members will form a platform within the opposition Smer party, according to the SITA news agency.

The integration agreement between Smer and SDSS was scheduled for signature November 4. After the merger, Smer will change its name to Smer-Social Democracy.
