More money for Slovak farmers

THE SLOVAK parliament has asked the cabinet to guarantee direct payments to Slovak farmers at 60 percent of the European Union member states' average in next year's state budget. Until now the cabinet has agreed direct payments at only 54 percent of the EU level.

The parliament's request was made as part of a resolution in which it took note of a report on Slovak agriculture and the food industry in 2003, the SITA news agency wrote.
