Kechnec attracts large investment

A GERMAN subsidiary of the US carmaker Ford, Getrag Ford Transmissions, is probably going to invest €400 million (Sk15.7 billion) at the Kechnec industrial park near Košice.

According to the daily Hospodárske noviny, the new plant will employ 3,000 people. The Economy Ministry is expected to announce the investment officially at a press conference December 2.

Ondrej Žmeber, spokesman for the Slovak Agency for the Development of Investment and Trade (SARIO), said that talks between Ford and SARIO have lasted six months. He also said that other Central European states were interested in attracting the investment.
