AIDS hits Slovak gays

The number of people in Slovakia registered as HIV positive stands at 131, journalists were told yesterday in the run up to World Aids Day December 1.

Emil Tomášik, director of the HIV/AIDS Coordination Centre in Bratislava, said the virus is being spread mainly via sexual intercourse, and that nearly 70 percent of those infected were homosexual males.

The figures, which Tomášik provided to the TASR news wire, were last updated September 30.
