New army ready by 2010

THE SLOVAK Armed Forces should be ready to participate in combat operations of international NATO-led missions by 2010, Ľubomír Bulík, Defence Ministry planning and resource management director, said.

According to the SITA news agency, Bulík also suggested that by the end of 2010 the military should have a mechanised brigade with all the necessary equipment. Slovakia could join NATO's Rapid Reaction forces even sooner - some time after 2007.

In keeping with the new regime, the strategic document of Army reform Model 2010 will be renamed Model 2015.
