Car sales in Slovakia steady

POLICE statistics report 67,626 registrations of new cars and small commercial vehicles of up to 3.5 tonnes in Slovakia last year, up by a mere 0.3 percent year-on-year, according to the SITA news agency.

In December, 8,433 cars and small commercial vehicles were registered, the highest number in any month for 2004.

In terms of brands, Czech brand Škoda remained a best seller in Slovakia, with a market share of 31.4 percent, followed by Volkswagen (9.1 percent), Renault (8.3 percent), Peugeot (7.2 percent), Opel (6.1 percent), Citroen (5.6 percent), Fiat (4.3 percent), Seat (3.3 percent), Toyota (2.8 percent) and Chevrolet/Daewoo (2.7 percent).
