BRATISLAVA


THE KOMART Gallery, which specializes in constructivist art, presents a selection of works by Vladimír Škoda, a Czech native who escaped Communism and now lives in France. The display includes spherical iron sculptures and graphic works. They show the fascination of the artist with the perfect shape of the sphere and the cosmos. The gallery is open daily, except for Mondays, between 10:00 and 18:00. The exhibition ends March 15. Admission is free. For more information call 02/5441-3429.

CLASSICAL MUSIC: Benefit concert - Slovak Radio Symphonic Orchestra featuring mezzo-soprano Terézia Kružliaková and pianist Ladislav Fančovič play under the baton of Jack Martin Händler in aid of countries hit by the tsunami in South Asia.

CENTRAL SLOVAKIA


DONOVALY, one of Slovakia's most popular skiing resorts, hosts the 7th World Dog Sled Championship February 10 to 13. Purebred Alaskan Malamute, Greenland Dog, Siberian Husky and Samoyed dogs led by the world's top mushers (sled drivers) will compete in 11 categories on four tracks ranging from eight to 20 kilometres. Organizers expect up to 200 competitors from 17 countries, about 1,500 dogs and 80,000 visitors, for which they have prepared a rich accompanying programme. The ski resort, also known as The Donovaly Alaska, is located in Central Slovakia. For more information call: 048/4199-942.
