Banks post big January profits

COMMERCIAL banks operating in Slovakia posted a profit of Sk1.4 billion (€38.2 million) in January 2005, a year-on-year rise of Sk172 million (€4.53 million), Slovakia's central bank reported.

The total assets of the bank sector reached Sk1.2 trillion (€31.6 billion). Provided loans totalled Sk273.2 billion (€7.18 billion) and client deposits were Sk669.9 billion (€18.5 billion).

Volume of standard loans (except classified loans) reached Sk42.5 billion (€1.12 billion).
