Reader feedback: US needs to reveal positive alternative

Re: US Steel sues for quotas, Volume 11, Number 10, March 14 - March 20, 2005

The Kyoto Protocol is not a sham. The agreement is very far from sufficient to solve our generally agreed problem of "greenhouse gases" but it is a start, a small start.

We probably need much more of Kyoto encompassing all nations. However, true to form, the US is the big negative player when it senses measures that restrict the profitability of US industry.

It holds dear its freedom to dump on the rest of the world.

As I say, Kyoto will not go far to solve our problems, but the US needs to present some positive alternative if the rest of the world is not to believe it cherishes its industry's profits above all else.
