Slovakia holds mighty Portugal

THE SLOVAK national football team held Portugal to a 1:1 draw in a March 30 match in Bratislava's Tehelné pole stadium.

The qualifying match for the World Cup in Germany in 2006 was attended by thousands of football fans under top security measures, the Národná Obroda daily wrote.

Slovakia's Miroslav Karhan scored Slovakia's goal from a penalty and Portugal's Helder Postiga tied the game in the 62nd minute of the match.
