Phone firms sign contracts

DIAL Slovensko and Slovakia's main fixed-line telephone company Slovak Telecom (ST) signed a contract on the interconnection of telephone networks. This follows similar contracts ST has signed with eTel, Amtel and Železničné telekomunikácie, the railway telephone company, since the beginning of March.

The contracts mark the real start of the liberalization of the fixed-line market in Slovakia. It means that people have a choice of operator as of August 1, 2005.

David Bečvář, head of Dial Slovensko, thinks that prices will go down by 20 to 30 percent as a result of competition.
