THE DANUBIANA Modern Art Museum hosts Retrospective, an exhibition that surveys the artistic life of painter and sculptor Ivan Pavle. The artist, who recently turned 50, exhibits pictures that include figurative and animal motifs, distinctive for their mysterious, unfinished and metaphoric features. According to the artist, they contain expressive messages that highlight the basic existential questions of humankind and make visible people's memories and imagination. "The body is my favourite theme," says the artist, who believes that figural painting will always be relevant. Danubiana is located at the Čunovo Water Works and is open daily except Monday between 10:00 and 18:00. Tickets cost Sk60. The exhibition runs until June 12. For more information call 02/6252-8501.

WE Are What We Are, an exhibition at the Ján Koniarek Gallery in Trnava, shows the life of the Roma people from a fresh perspective. Eighteen Roma and non-Roma artists from 10 countries present the joys and troubles of people from the Roma community. Their views form an untraditional mosaic of the Roma people as an alternative to the usual depiction of the Roma minority in the contemporary visual arts. The exhibited paintings, photos, videos and installations have already been exhibited in Austria and Slovenia. The gallery is located in the Koppel House at Zelený kríček 3 in Trnava. It is open Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 to 17:00, Saturday and Sunday from 13:00 to 18:00. Tickets cost Sk20. Tel: 033/5511-659.
