New car registrations reach 5,640 in March

POLICE reported 5,640 new registrations for cars and small commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes in Slovakia in March, the Automotive Industry Association (ZAP) announced.

"During the first quarter of 2005 the registration of new cars amounted to 14,128 cars - 1.66 percent increase year-on-year," said Mária Nováková from ZAP. She added that car sales slowed down moderately in March, but statistical data for the first quarter of 2005 was higher than in the first quarter of 2004 and 2003, the SITA news agency wrote.

Czech company Škoda remained the best-selling car brand in Slovakia. Importers sold 4,115 Škoda vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes in Slovakia in March securing the brand a 29.13 percent market share.
