Majority approve NATO membership

A POLL published April 29 by the Defence Ministry's press department showed that 54 percent of Slovaks support the country's NATO membership.

The poll, published one year after Slovakia joined the military alliance, was carried out by the NOC agency using a sample of 1,137 people in early April, the TASR news agency reported.

On the other hand, a significant amount (29 percent), said they did not approve of Slovakia joining NATO.

The same poll showed that 61 percent of Slovaks trust the Slovak Armed Forces, while 26 percent distrust them.
