Bush chooses new US ambassador

GEORGE W Bush has nominated Rodolphe M Vallee to succeed Ronald Weiser, who left his post last year, as the new United States ambassador to Slovakia, the White House website states.

Vallee is the Chairman and CEO of a chain of petrol stations in Vermont. He is a long-term Republican Party supporter and represents Vermont on the Republican National Committee.

In 2004 he was listed as a "pioneer" for President Bush's re-election campaign. Pioneers were fundraisers who pledged to bring in at least $100,000 (€77,000) to the campaign.
