NBS Governor says crown can appreciate

THE GOVERNOR of the Slovak National Bank (NBS) Ivan Šramko sees scope for the further strengthening of the Slovak crown, he told the TASR news wire.

"The crown's appreciation in recent days has not as yet been considered risky and we still accept that in order to stay on course regarding our inflation aims, strengthening of the crown is welcomed only in accordance with the performance of the economy, not under the influence of short-term capital," Šramko said.

Šramko pointed out that the Central and Eastern European currencies have all been developing together over the past two months.

"The development of the currencies can be influenced more by a regional approach than by the individual development of the economies," Šramko noted.
