Italians agree to dividend payment to state

SLOVAK power producer Slovenské elektrárne (SE) will pay out record dividends worth Sk1.5 billion (€38.6 million) to the Slovak state, the daily Pravda reported. The dividends will be paid with the agreement of Italian company Enel, which is to take over a controlling stake in SE.

The decision was pushed through by the Economy Minster Pavol Rusko. The acquired dividends will be used to pay for healthcare, in spite of the fact that the they could have been used to pay off the company’s debts.

According to Economy Ministry spokesperson Maroš Havran, Enel agreed to the dividend payment when it signed its 66-percent acquisition contract with the Slovak state.
