Slovnaft: Slovak fuels among cheapest in EU

THE RETAIL prices of motor fuels before taxation are the fourth lowest in the European Union as of July 25, according to Kristína Félová, spokeswoman for oil refinery Slovnaft.

The only EU countries where retail petrol prices are lower before tax are Finland, the United Kingdom and France, the SITA news agency reported.

Diesel retail prices before tax in Slovakia are the second lowest in the EU, after Denmark.

The average retail price for a 1,000 litres of petrol in Slovakia is €423.62, before tax. The cost for the same amount of diesel is €459.26, before tax.

According to Félová, the retail prices in Slovakia reflect the price development on international markets.

“The final price for the consumer is mainly influenced by the taxation level, which is approximately 60 percent of the retail price," she said.
