President honours high achievers

SLOVAK President Ivan Gašparovič honoured 15 Slovaks with the highest state award on the occasion of Constitution Day on September 1, the SITA news agency reported.

The Ľudovít Štúr Order of the first class went to scientist and lawyer Štefan Luby, cardiologist Irena Jakubčová and linguist Ján Stanislav. Historian and writer Matúš Kučera and former chairman of the board of directors of Volkswagen Slovakia, Jozef Uhrík, also received the award.

The Ľudovít Štúr Order of the second class went to actor Emil Horváth Jr, theater designer Milan Čorba, architect Ferdinand Milučký, scientist Karol Kahoun, economist Eugen Jurzyca, orthopedist Leo Spišák, former Education Minister Jan Pišút and the director of Železiarne Podbrezová, Vladimír Soták. Cameraman Tibor Biath and manager Adrian Ďurček received the Ľudovít Štúr Order of the third class.
