NEWS BRIEFS

VÚC's increase council members

VOTERS will elect into office 11 more councillors than four years ago in next month's Higher Territorial Units' (VÚC) elections.

On November 26, Slovaks will elect a total 412 councillors across eight regional VÚCs. In 2001 there were only 401 VÚC councillors, the TASR news agency wrote. The VÚCs themselves decided to increase their numbers. Four years ago a special law determined the number. Slovakia's most-populous region, Prešov VÚC, will have the most councillors (68) and Trnava the least (40).
