Slovakia starts offensive against bird flu

MINISTRIES in Slovakia have identified the first measures to take against the threat of bird flu.

The measures include the possibility of shooting even protected bird species as well as detailed instructions for bird breeders, the Hospodárske noviny reported.

Legislation will also have to change. The Slovak Environment Ministry wants to submit some of the changes to the cabinet next week.

A special commission started operating at the Agriculture Ministry. A lab where suspected samples will be inspected has already been chosen, said Health Minister Rudolf Zajac.
