Defense Minister playing golf on the job

SLOVAK Defense Minister Juraj Liška plays golf during the day while other ministerial employees work in their offices.

The TA3 all-news station filmed the minister at the Bernolákovo golf course near Bratislava during regular work hours recently.

"We received a tip that he plays golf in the afternoons and that last week he was there three or four times," TA3 reporter Martin Linhart told the SME daily. Linhart and a cameraman went to Bernolákovo on October 20 and filmed the minister on the course.

The minister refused to speak to the reporter, and the owner of the golf course ordered the crew off the grounds.

Linhart then rang the ministry to ask where the minister was, saying he wanted to speak to him. The press department told him that Liška was in a meeting.

When Linhart rang again and said he knew the minister was playing golf, the minister's spokesman, Zenon Mikle, said the minister does not have fixed work hours and therefore indulges in his hobbies whenever he finds time.

Mikle also said that a doctor recommended that Liška play golf because it is good for his spine.
