Slovak success at the Golden Drum


A SLOVAK TV spot won top prize at the 12th international festival Golden Drum held in Portorož, Slovenia, the news wire SITA reported. The winning spot, called Waiters' Run, advertised Zlatý bažant beer and was produced by the Mayer McCann-Erikson Agency. According to Peter Švec, spokesperson for the spot's sponsor, Heineken Company, this is the biggest achievement for Slovak advertising in the festival's history.


Young conductor Lejava wins prize


THIS year's Jozef Bulva Foundation Prize for up-and-coming Slovak musicians went to young conductor Marián Lejava. The Foundation, which fosters classical music talents, will reward Lejava with a year's scholarship and has commissioned him to compose Metamorphoses Nocturnes for Orchestra. Lejava will premiere the work at the beginning of the next music season with the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra.


Brunovský attracts Paris art-lovers


A PARIS exhibition of Slovakia's renowned graphic artist Albín Brunovský has impressed French art-lovers, according to the news wire SITA. Almost 30 of the painter's works from the 1970's - 1990's are on display at the Le Pont Neuf Association Gallery until November 19. The exhibition is part of the Week of Foreign Cultures.
