THE INTERNATIONAL Festival of Art Therapy/Art on the Margin will feature 12 troupes performing 14 shows between October 24 and 29 in Banská Bystrica and Bratislava. Now in its second year, the festival offers a competitive show of "community theatres" whose ensembles consist of mentally ill, physically disabled and other problems' fascing performers. This is an experiment in art therapy, or psychotherapy, which uses art to treat disabilities. This year's guests come from the USA, The Netherlands, Hungary, Germany, the Republic of South Africa, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Pregónes Theatre, an off-Broadway Bronx-based ensemble, will highlight its Puerto Rican and Latin American roots with El Apagón (The Blackout),...

...a play set on a New York City subway train during a blackout. A discussion on HIV and AIDS will be an integral part of the South African Soweto Theatre's plays. Hungarian ensemble Vakrepűlés színjatszó egyesűlet (The Blindfly Theatre Company) will present The Touch of Night, a play written especially for blind actors, to be performed in total darkness. The central Slovak city of Banská Bystrica will host 11 plays at its Theatre from the Passage, located at Horná Strieborná 25. The 100-member Budapest Gypsy Symphony Orchestra is returning to Slovakia to play a unique mixture of traditional gypsy violin, Hungarian folk tunes and classical music. Performances will be held in Bratislava on October 28 at the Sport Hall Pasienky on Bajkalská Street and the next day at the Cassosport Hall, at Alejová 11, in Košice. Both concerts start at 19:00, and feature the best cimbalom player in the world, Oszkár Őkrős. The Bratislava concert (Sk590 - Sk890) includes Slovak musical singer Katarína Hasprová and world-renowned opera singer Martin Babjak. Košice tickets cost Sk249 and Sk299.
